Wind Turbines – Elegant structures gracing the skyline, or colossal monstrosities dividing friends, families, and communities?  The documentary “Windfall” directed by Laura Israel explores the result of a mega-corporation constructing several turbines in the town of Meredith, New York.  Residents are now left to face the repercussions of poor turbine placement in their community.  Check out the trailer below, you may find it to be very thought provoking.

Within the coming year, Martha’s Vineyard will be making critical decisions regarding the possible construction of offshore wind turbines in state and federal waters.   As designers we must consider the visual and auditory impacts wind turbines will have in relation to existing communities.  With the purpose of preserving the environment and character of Martha’s Vineyard, members of the Martha’s Vineyard Commission and town planning representatives from all six island towns have been working on the  Wind Energy Plan Status Report – version 4.  It is possible to use renewable resources without the damage to our communities.  To see what potential offshore turbines would look like from the island check out island resident Henry Stephensen’s  Simulation of Views of Wind Turbines.

Get involved.  Ask questions. Do Your Homework .
