The actual size and scale of Martha’s Vineyard is often different than people expect.  To clarify the true size of Martha’s Vineyard and how it compares to other islands of the east coast, listed below are the islands ranked in size order by square mileage.  Omitted from this list are peninsulas that have technically been turned into islands through canals such as Cape Cod and the Delmarva Peninsula.

The Largest True Island of the East Coast

Martha’s Vineyard is the largest true island of the east coast meaning the island does not have any bridges or tunnels connected to the mainland. Other true islands of the east coast include Nantucket and Cumberland Island in Georgia.

Until next time,
